Answer: The science of thermodynamics deals with the amount of heat transfer as a system when it undergoes a process change from one equilibrium state to another state. While heat transfer on the other hand, deals with the rate of heat transfer as well as the temperature distribution within the system at a specified time.
For example when designing a radiator in an automobile, thermodynamics helps to determine the amount of energy transfer to be taken place by using the properties of the coolant used in the radiator. While heat transfer helps to design the radiator tubes like diameter of the tubes and shape of the tubes.
