Alcoholism and drug abuse is a problem that is existing in the whole world and is rampant in the USA as well. This problem is significant today as it was in the past. According to the National Survey on Drug Abuse and Health (2015), 86.4% of people between ages 18 or older said that they consumed alcohol at some point of their lifetime. According to the National Survey on Drug Abuse and Health (2015) 15.1 million adults ages 18 and older i.e,6.2%of this age group had alcohol use disorder. In the USA alcoholism and drug abuse has major consequences. Firstly, it leads to academic degradation, i.e, students often miss classes fail in exams etc. ; it causes severe threats to health; crimes in the society occur due to alcoholism; such cases often lead to sexual abuse also. Thus it can be said that alcohol and drug abuse pose severe problems in the society whether in the present or in the past. And corrections should be made to tackle such problems and its disastrous effects.
