answer:

Part-1) Recommend two to three ways to reduce crime in the city or town in which you live. Explain how these recommendations would make good economic policy.

The community I stay, the crime rate is relatively low. However, if I am chosen as an activist in a city with high crime I would first analyze what crime is highest and accordingly the two to three ways I would implement to reduce crime that would include:

–Be cautious when using social media.

Today cyber crime on the rise, on line vacation posting, and has become the modern day version of 10 newspapers in the driveway, the people don’t want to broadcast your exotic vacation and the fact that your home will be empty by sharing it in advance on orkut, Face book, much less Twitter. Economically people will not lose your valuable by not posting.

–Keep your streets beautiful.

The broken window theory of fighting crime reflects that areas with unmaintained properties faces a higher incidence of crime. If people see something broken or needing attention, report it to the appropriate agency right away, and should also take its photo so that instead of calling the police to say, Hey, there’s graffiti over here, just take a photo of it and document it that way. Now a day many government agencies have public access areas on their websites that pushes people to report graffiti by uploading images directly on website. Economically also well kept neighbourhoods will have higher property values and less non desirables to live by.

–Get involved in the neighbourhood.

Get to know the neighbourhood, and exchange emergency contact numbers or email addresses, forming a neighbourhood watch group so residents can serve as an extra benefit set of eyes for the police. If a person sees something that looks suspicious, then like a good citizen should always be a good witness and report it to the police, rather than trying to get in the middle of something. Economically also the well protected neighbourhoods have higher property values and less criminals

Part-2) Give your opinion on how economic analysis can be used to assist in understanding why there could be a reduction in crime.

Economic analysis can be highly beneficial in comparison of indicators for addressing economic causes. Economic analysis will reflect, for instance, if the unemployment rate is lower and they crime rate is lower in the same year, thus there exists a correlation between the two.
